Visitor Restrictions Implemented to Protect Patients

 

The spread of seasonal and H1N1 influenza in our community has prompted Parkview Community Hospital Medical Center to take special measures to protect patients, staff and visitors.  Because it is difficult to determine who may be infected with influenza – people can be contagious before they start showing symptoms of flu, which include fever and cough or sore throat – these policy restrictions apply to all visitors to our hospital inpatient units throughout the flu season.

 

We recognize that this may cause a hardship for our patients and their families and ask for your patience and understanding.  We would be remiss if we did not take steps that we believe will help minimize as much as possible the spread of both the seasonal and H1N1 viruses.  Thank you for your cooperation in helping to protect the safety of our patients, staff and visitors.

 

Children under the age of 16 will not be permitted beyond the hospital lobby and must be attended by an adult at all times.

 

In all inpatient Units

Ø  Visiting hours – 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Ø  Visitors with any symptoms of influenza-like illness are not allowed.

Ø  Visitors (including siblings) under the age of 16 are not allowed.

Ø  Only two people may visit an inpatient at a time.

Ø  Spouses/significant others, parents or direct caregivers (son, daughter or other immediate family member responsible for care) may be exempted from limits to visiting hours, at the discretion of the Charge Nurse.

Ø  Visitors may be issued masks or other protective clothing for use when visiting.  Visitors who do not wear this protective clothing in accordance with instructions will be asked to leave.

 

Adult Critical Care

Ø  Visitors may be limited to spouse/significant others, parents or direct caregivers (son, daughter, or other immediate family responsible for care) only.

 

Women’s and Children Services

Ø  Visitors to infants and children are limited to two people, who must be parents or guardians only.

Ø  Visitors to women in OB units are limited to one person who must be either a spouse or significant other.  If the patient does not have a spouse or significant other, a designated “support person” may visit instead.

Ø  Visitors to the women’s and children’s unit, are not limited to the visiting hours stated above and will be at the discretion of the Charge Nurse.

 

All visitors are encouraged to wash their hands often; before and after entering a patient’s room and upon leaving.

 

Note: There may be exemptions to this policy in certain very limited circumstances, such as situations where a patient is at the end of life.  In cases where exceptions are made, it will be at the discretion of the physician and the hospital leadership.

Parking

Visitors are welcome to use the parking lot directly in front of the hospital main entrance.

Lounges/Courtyards

Please see the floor map to find an appropriate lounge or courtyard. Family and friends of those having surgery may want to wait in the surgery lounge located on the back side of the elevator on the first floor.

Concerns or Questions

If you have concerns or questions regarding patient care or visitor, please notify the charge nurse. A Patient Relations representative can assist you with patient rights, problems or concerns.

The Patient Relations staff is available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 at (951) 352-5479 or (951) 688-2211 ext. #5479. A supervisor is on duty after hours and on weekends should you need assistance. There is also a 24-hour “Care Line” ext. #4616.

Smoking

Parkview Community Hospital is a smoke-free campus. Parkview Community Hospital is committed to disease prevention and the treatment of illness. We have an interest in providing a healthy environment.
